Description

So this is the core of an HII region that was originally catalogued as a planetary nebula, thus its listing in the Abell planetary catalog as Abell 77. There are a few images of the wider field available on-line that show a larger faint nebulosity that would fill this field, but few that show much detail in this core structure. I only used an IR/UV Cut filter, so was not able to pick this fainter outer nebula from the suburbs. Next time I image this, I'll use a light pollution filter.

The nebula reminds me a bit of the crescent nebula. This makes me wonder whether it is a more distant analog of the more famous nebula and if the bright star at the center might thus be a Wolf-Rayet star.

One very noticeable thing about this field is the large number of yellow stars. I suspect this is caused by significant interstellar dust reddening most of the stars in this field.

Each of the 5 images stacked here were live-stacked images of 240 two second subs.
