Description

Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier's M31 or NGC 224 is the nearest spiral galaxy originally discovered by Persian scholar Abdal Rahman Al Sufi is approximately 2.5 million light years distant from Earth and has a diameter of approximately 160,000 light years. The Andromeda Galaxy is much larger than the Milky Way. M31has an extended system of companion galaxies. M32 is the smaller companion at the 2'oclock position and it is unclear if it is ahead or behind M31. The distant companion galaxy is M110 at the 11'oclock position.
