Description

This spiral galaxy is located just 40 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -8 degrees.  It spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 50,000 light years.  Our view of this galaxy is about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

The yellow core is surrounded by a disk of blue star clouds and purple HII regions.  The arms are traceable but not clearly defined, which is typical for a galaxy of this small size.  I like the definition of the dust lanes in and amongst the arms.
