Description

This is the opposite of a baby picture - this is what our sun will look like in 5 billion years, give or take a few billion years. The sun will blow off its outer layers and will settle into old age as a white dwarf star, slowly growing colder for billions of years until it becomes too cold to see anymore. The results of the outer layers moving away from the sun will look something like this picture, but only for a few thousands of years until it becomes too diffuse to see. This object is known as M57, or the Ring Nebula.
