Description

After 2 solid weeks of daily thunderstorms, the air finally dried out enough to give me some clear skies. With the waning gibbous moon not rising until nearly 2AM, that was plenty of time to snag 3.5 hours on the Black Eye Galaxy (M64/NGC 4826) in the constellation Coma Berenices. A popular target for amateur astronomers, both visually and photographically, the object gets its common name from the large, dense dust cloud in front of the core of the galaxy.
