Description

This is my first try at combining H-alpha data with RGB. I had barely a couple hrs last night before the clouds came back over and decided to collect about an half hour each in RGB. I had planned to get 8 each but had to toss the first two Red subs out. Got a total of 8 good Blue and had to stop after 5 Green because of returning clouds. I combined these 19 subs with my 24 H-alpha subs collected back on the 16th.

This turned out to be MUCH harder than I anticipated. I ended up having to saturate the image a little more than I wanted to get the correct red color. If I backed it off any at all the red started turning pink.

I used Regim for pre-processing on the RGB and then did everything else in Photoshop with this one. I actually ended up using Carboni's Ha False Color on my H-alpha data to get more of a red instead of pink. I have read this is quite common when combining Ha with RGB and my first experience with it confirmed this.

If anyone has any pointers for combining H-alpha with RGB I'll sure take note. I have quite a few that I'd like to put some color to if I can get a little better at it!!

UPDATE: The revision here is not HaRGB. I left out my Red data and used H-alpha in its place. I dont know if this (HaGB) will work for every image but I like the added detail from the increased h-alpha signal. It would sure save me some time if it would work though. I have the Crescent, NA & Pelican, Wizard, Elephants Trunk, and Lagoon & Trifid all in H-alpha only that I would like to add color to. I think I will give it a try and just collect some Green and Blue on these when it clears up!
