Description

Located in Centauri constellation and distante 15,800 light years from Earth, Omega Centauri is the most massive globular cluster known with 4 million Solar masses.

It has been speculated that Omega Centauri is a Dwarf galaxy that was absorbed by our Milk Way. Indeed, Kapteyn's star, which is currently only 13 light years away, is thought to originate from Omega Centauri. Omega Centauri's chemistry and motion in the galaxy is also consistent with this picture.

Needless to say that Omega Centauri is a very peculiar globular cluster, a beauty either to be imaged or visually seen at the telscope.

This image is a stack as follows:

Lum: 15x5min bin1x1

R,G,B: 20x 180min bin 1x1

Telescope:

Skywatcher Esprit 120mm f/7

Camera: ST 8300

Mount: EQ-6 Pro guided

CCD Guider: Lodestar

Transparency was bad with too much thin clouds all over the sky. Seeing was reasonable until the middle of the session, after that it turns out to be too bad (FWHM from 2.1 to 4.5)
