Description

Capturing a ringed Seyfert 2-type galaxy situated 50 million light years away is a pretty big feeling of accomplishment. Especially since I didn't plan on it! My target was the planetary nebula to the right - known as NGC 6543 - or the Cats Eye Nebula.

The galaxy itself is NGC 6552. Unfortunately it doesn't have a name.

Captured with a Nikon D5100. 171 light frames @ 30 seconds / ISO2000, calibrated using 100 dark calibration frames and 59 flat frames. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop CS6 / Lightroom 5.5
