Description

Further experiments with PixInsight using Orion Data from 28.12.13. This time investigating debayering the raw subs first rather than letting the default loading do it. Also experimenting with Atrous wavelet noise reduction.

This one used VNG Debayer so each source monochrome DSLR sensel resulted in one RGB image pixel so the sensor resolution is maintained but each pixel is obvious interpolated from several source sensels.

Curves were adjusted in PI with some minor tweeks in LR.

UPDATE: turns out that these test images weren't properly debayered after all. A closer look at the debayered subs showed that they had in fact been debayered twice. It seems like the debayer script in PI is still bound by the DSRL_RAW settings when it loads the raw subs. Hence when the script loaded each NEF file PI handily debayered it before the script got to see it. Solution is to either set the DSLR_RAW format to load the raw file as-is or just not use the debayer script in the first place. I also noted that there are far more debayering options in the main PI format settings that the script offers. By default PI is set to do crude bilinear interpolation when loading raw files but can easily be set to user AHD or create superpixels.
