Description

I have been learning how to use PixInsight over the last couple of months. This is the first image I've got enough real data to try for a Hubble palette.

Version A: I don't know how to process the stars right yet, so they're no good and some need deblooming. The Ha was very dominating.

Versions B and C are after learning some more via tutorials plus experimentation. I like the finer details on them, but aren't happy with the star colours or the lack of sharpness.

Version D is more experimentation, but I black clipped too much. The stars a bit better overall.

Version E: I went back to scratch after a few weeks break. I think I improved the initial processing of the images (calibration, noise removal, etc) than my other attempts. I had more of an attempt to fix the stars with this one, but it might be overdone.

Version F: I backed off some version E's histogram manipulation and tried some dark structure enhancement (via script). I think it's more "technically" correct for most of the background not to be dark given the region, but it seems strange. A larger mosaic of the area would probably disguise this better.

Version G continues from version F, with deconvolution (star masked) for a final sharpen.

Version H continues from version G - I couldn't handle the background being so light, so this is just darkening the shadows.

Version I: Based on the previous 4 versions, I backtracked in history and did the deconvolution near the start of the process. This was still quite difficult to get right as I struggled to get a decent mask. If you look closely, you'll see a few stars are dark ringed still. However, I like this version a lot more because it brings out the nebula details. Given that I think those details were better data in these images than the stars, I'll go with this for now.
