Description

This image is actually, the last from this year's July. Taken at 00:30 a.m., while some clouds rollled over the Northern (Cygnus) and Western (Scorpius, especially the Antares area) Horizons. The Milky Way was already in the West side of the meridian. I look forward to try better mosaics next year, but this one, in my opinion, is quite good. A lot to be learned yet...

Taken from Rural Skies (Bortle 3-4), with a bit of Light Pollution visible in the Northern and Western Horizons, from MG, Brazil. Thanks for seeing.

Camera: Unmodded T4i/650D at ISO 1600

Lens: Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM, at f/3.2.

Exposure Detail: 1x60s for each panel, total 16x60s or 16x1 minute or 16 minutes.

*Version -B- is a Crop just showing the areas I've completely captured, without gaps. *

*Processing workflow: As PS Elements Photomerge only works with 8 bit images, I had to follow this steps to make this image:

- White Balance Adjustment in Canon's DPP, then export all the images with DPP in high-quality JPEGs.

- Photomerge tool in PS Elements 11.

- Export the newly merged images as a TIFF, 16 bit.

- Open the TIFF in Photoshop CS2, where I used adjustment layers, adjusting Brightness, Levels, Curves (many of those!), Black Point adjustment... At the end apply a High Pass filter to sharpen up the contrast (10-30% opacity). Then used Minimum filter to Shrink the Stars (20% opacity). Finally in CS2, rotate and crop the image. Save as a TIFF.

- Open the TIFF again in Elements, where I added the text to the images. Save it as another TIFF.

- Open this TIFF in CS2 again, where a final Unsharp Mask has been applied. Save as a TIFF, and as a resized JPEG for Astrobin.
