Description

A picture from some weeks ago. That was the 1st Light of my new HEQ5 mount in a dark sky. Well, I must say it wasn't good. Lots of things yet to be learnt, and many mistakes, a poor polar alignment etc etc, led to a bad tracking function and a non-functional GoTo. Well, I had very few time that night, about 2 hours to set up, shoot and set down. Setting up in the dark is really difficult, and after many mistakes, I had only about 1h to image. Bad tracking resulted in only 1 minute unguided subs at 70mm! This is simply not enough.

Well, first I shot Cygnus, with some thin clouds near Deneb. This picture wasn't processed yet. The 2nd target was the SMC, and the Comet C/2013 A1, or Siding Spring. This is my 1st comet photo, and, as I didn't exactly knew where it was I shot at 70mm, hoping to get it in the frame. Well, a 135-200mm Focal Lenght would have been better. But I'm quite pleased with the result, although it is far from perfect. I don't know why I had this gradient in the sky, I think due to LP.

Despite all drawbacks, and all the problems I had, this picture is unique because of the comet. It was worth the capture. Taken from Rural Skies, from MG, Brazil. Thanks for seeing.

Camera: Unmodded T4i/650D at ISO 1600

Lens: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8, at 70mm and f/3.2

Exposure Detail: 10x60s, total 10 minutes

*Please see Version -C-, a crop where the comet is marked.*
