Description

This is a wide field view of two nebulae in constellation Sagittarius. The lower left is the Lagoon Nebula or M8. If you zoom in you can see the Hour Glass Nebula in its inner core. M8 is an excellent example of a young stellar cluster that is part of an active star forming region. You can see young stars forming in this nebula. To the upper right is the Trifid Nebula or M20 which oddly looks like the backside of an eye ball with the optic nerve severed, The Trifid stands for three folds which are actually seen as four folds or partitions. It has two regions, a central Hydrogen Alpha region surrounded by the blue halo of a reflection nebula. You can see a very tiny portion of a star cluster called M21 near the Trifid Nebula.
