Description

While processing this image, I immediately noticed the short streak just outside the outer nebulosity of the Helix Nebula at 7 O'clock in my stacked 3.7 hour image. This started a search for what it is. I went back through and examined each light frame. One, to make sure something was really there, and also to see if it appeared in every frame. Turns out it does, and by watching the very faint (15.5 visual magnitude) object move ever so slowly, toward the Helix's center, I was able to follow its trajectory. Next, with the help of my friend, Mike Nofi, we were able to determine that it is the known Asteroid (15407) Udakiyoo by using the International Astronomical Union's "Minor Planet Checker".
