Description

In Greek mythology, the Pleiades are the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. This open cluster is placed in 45th position in Charles Messier's catalog but has been well known since prehistoric times. Early descriptions date back to Mesopotamia around 2500 BC. The reflection nebula around the Pleiades has been created by dust and interstellar magnetic fields. This is one dusty bunch of stars.
