Description

IC 1396, known commonly as the Elephant's Trunk Nebula, is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust in the constellation Cepheus.

This LRGB composite image consists of 149 frames totaling 28.25 hours of exposure time. Individual exposures include 41 - 900 second luminance frames, 36 - 600 second red filtered frames, 36 - 600 second green filtered frames and 36 - 600 second blue filtered frames. Luminance frames were captured using a Takahashi TOA-130 refractor, QSI583wsg CCD camera, Astrodon GenII filter and Astro-Physics AP900 German equatorial mount. Red, green and blue frames were captured using a Takahashi FSQ-106 refractor, QSI583wsg CCD camera, Astrodon GenII filters and Astro-Physics Mach1 German equatorial mount. Image calibration and processing was accomplished using PixInsight.
