Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a stellar-like planetary nebula located 19,000 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros at a declination of -5 degrees. That is one of the furthest distances away for a PN that I have imaged. This PN, also known as G221.7+05.3, spans about 20 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which at that distance corresponds to a fairly typical PN diameter of 2 light years.

I could not find any information on this object, or any other images of it. I can’t see the central star of the PN. The nebula has a bit of a bi-polar shape, running from top left to bottom right. The bright white section has a hint of a ring but is not well defined. We are looking at this PN from a perspective between side-on and end-on, which is not the best viewing angle.
