Description

LDN 673 - The Mayan Glyph Nebula

As part of a giant molecular cloud within the Aquila rift, LDN673 covers almost a full degree of the starry backdrop, documented #673 of Lynds Dark Nebula catalog.

Putting distance into perspective, the 'majority' of the red stars can be traced to 'behind' the molecular cloud in this image, while the 'majority' of the blue ones are closer to us than to the cloud.(**)

**Edit: the blue/red star colors is described within the cosmic extinction context and has nothing to do with red-shifting / blue-shifting.

This nebula wasn't on my hit-list but plans changed since my main right-winger camera has recently died, which got me limited to a broadband target. Thank you Michel Makhlouta for recommending this beautiful one.
