Description

During a public "Solar Saturday" event that I was lead docent for at the Cameron Park Rotary Community Observatory, I decided to attach the camera to the 4" refractor to capture the awesome prominences we were observing. During my image capture, a kettle of Turkey Vultures came into view circling.

This image is the result of one minute of exposures of Promenences, one minute of exposures of the surface with one of those frames frozen and the birds masked and re-overlayed to enhance their contrast (othewise the stacking process would have made them very faint ghosts.)

There has been much discussion on the Audubon and Raptor facebook pages about these birds, and the general consensus is that I captured a Red Tail Hawk (right) below the Turkey Vultures (left).
