Description

I was lucky enough to be offered a TMB 92ss that had been sitting in its case for nine years and never seen the light of a star. Not only was I thrilled to get my hands on this scope, but was also interested in how it performed relative to it's big-cousin refractors. Seeing that I had just done a series with the Heart Nebula with the AP 130 GT, I thought IC 1805 would be a fine target.

Look at the image relative to my earlier Heart Nebula ( http://www.astrobin.com/130033 ). They have a similar FOV (the TMB's is slightly less, with the TMB using the smaller 8300 chip camera). The TMB image uses the 5 nm Ha filter and the AP image user the 3 nm Ha filter. So the TMB image has more starlight and the AP image has more Ha nebulosity.

My conclusion, the TMB is compact, easy to carry and mount and an excellent, while not perfect alternative to a bigger/heavier refractor.
