Description

This image was taken under very cold, windy conditions under skies with poor transparency. The wind started at 12G18 kts and decrease to "only" a steady 8 kts by the end of the run. This is why you want a sturdy mount! With the wind, the cold, and the poor sky conditions, I really didn't think that I'd get much useful data. In fact, the image preview on the camera was so poor that I couldn't see it well enough to frame the object very well. I basically just pointed, focused, and let it rip.

The N. American nebula is such a commonly photographed object that I almost let it go but I wanted to try out my new flat procedure with the Hyperstar. I'm glad I did. This image came out way better than I expected! There is a lot going on in this area of the sky. It is also a great example of how well the C14+Hyperstar at F/1.9 covers a full 24 mm x 36 mm sensor. This image only has a very tiny bit cropped from the edge so it's probably about a 98% full frame. I tend to like the orange version but after a bunch of fooling around, I decided to mark the more traditional red/pink version as final. C&C always welcome...
