    Description

LRGB of the ever popular Iris Nebula. Tried to go deeper than in previous attempts from home observatory. Actually aborted a mosaic that was to include LBN486 in the same field. A larger chip than the 8300 series would have easily included both DSOs in the same FOV of the FSQ-106 @f/5...maybe next time.

Processing proved interesting as with all dark nebulae objects in that the dark, low signal areas are noise magnets and are very difficult to process without the overall image becoming overly smooth in appearance. Creative masking helps to solve this problem. Additionally The Iris is an HDR target so treatment of the blue reflection nebula is critical. I don't know if I've achieved the sought after balance yet, but all constructive critical commentary is welcome.
