Description

Andromeda is ~2.5 million ly distant and is moving toward the Milky Way at 250,000 mph. In a few billion years there's going to be a *big* collision. Andromeda is much larger, but neither galaxy will survive intact. Andromeda's diameter is 220,000 ly with a trillion stars and has an angular size six times greater than the full moon. The bright core is the result of millions of stars crowded together, orbiting a supermassive black hole at near-relativistic velocities.

This is my second attempt at this target, now with a little more experience under my belt.

I'm slowly accepting that from my location I need longer exposures if I want good images. This one used 11-minute subs, but I can go longer. Just need the weather to cooperate. I'm still rock bottom basic at processing.

I'm new enough at this that I'm totally amazed that this little 2.56" telescope can capture this incredible galaxy.
