Description

Experimental image. A 2-panel mosaic of the California Nebula in Ha only. The framing is not one that I've seen too often so hopefully it's a somewhat unique perspective. This framing is primarily due to the camera/scope combination and limited time. For now, as a good friend recently told me, mosaics are way more cost effective than the big chip camera that I covet...so here it is...

The weather at SRO has been decidedly uncooperative for a couple of weeks with the exception of last night and fortunately this target is placed so that it can be imaged nearly the entire night. Thus, this incomplete mosaic of 8x1800 and 5x1800. Our usual standard for this imaging set up is at least 16x1800 in Ha, but given the brightness of the target there was something to work with. No flats were applied.

I used the standard approach to creating the mosaic with StarAlignment and GMM. I also used DrizzleIntegration just for kicks. Fortunately, the panels lined up very well in this case (plus there are only 2....a much more ambitious 9-panel mosaic is still in the works).
