Description

Triangulum Galaxy, the first object I've imaged with my new IDAS LPS-P2 filter. So far, at least for galaxies, I am fairly impressed with the IDAS P2 filter. Lets through a lot more light, but still blocks the bulk of the hard (mercury and sodium vapor) light pollution. It is one of the most balanced filters I've ever used, and I think it will be ideal for galaxy season.

When it comes to nebula, I think the LPS-P2 is less suitable. It does let through more light. That's great for star color (as seen in this image, stars come out quite nicely), but it saturates the image faster, and it is blocking less LP (i.e. car headlight, porch lighting, etc.) so you have to deal with a lot more skyfog. My first couple attempts to image nebula with the LPS-P2 have not been ideal. MUCH better vignette characteristics than the Astronomik CLS-XL clip-in filter that I've been using so far...but it simply does not allow as deep of exposures. I think an IDAS LPS-V4 is in my future soon.
