Description

NGC4535 is a fantastic face-on spiral with clearly defined arms. Note how the young bright blue stars define the arms- along with pink knots of emission nebulae in the galaxy. The galaxy was studied as part of the Hubble Space Telescope Extragalactic Distance Scale Key Project. Astronomers studied luminous Cepheid variables in this galaxy and estimate its distance to be 52 +/- 3 million light years away. Discovered by Charles Messier on March 18th 1781.

Observation Notes : Pretty bright, large, much brighter middle, stellar nucleus at 165X. It is little elongated 1.2 X 1 in PA 0. Very mottled with several stars involved.
