Description

The California Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It is so named because, at some angles, it appears to resemble the outline of the US State of California on long exposure photographs. It spans nearly 2.5° across the sky and, because of its very low surface brightness, is extremely difficult to observe visually. It lies at a distance of about 1,000 light years from Earth. Its beautiful fluorescence is due to excitation from the nearby prodigiously energetic brilliant blue star, xi Persei, which is suspended beneath the nebula in the image. NGC 1499 is visible in the northern hemisphere during the winter months. Captured from my red/white zone home location.

Version A was compiled from 16 subs.

In version B I was able to add 24 more subs over several nights.

Versions C&D were processed in March of 2015.
