Description

The California Nebula, catalogued as NGC 1499, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus, and is estimated to be relatively close to Earth as a distance of just 1,000 light years. The brightest star in the photograph, just above center, is responsible for the fluorescence of the hydrogen gas in the nebula.

RGB data was captured from the Big Stump parking lot in Kings Canyon National Park. H-Alpha data was captured from my backyard in Clovis, California.
