Description

The rough product of 12/28/14's escapades in imaging

Taken with a stock Sony A6000, this widefield image of the area from the Flame Nebula to the Great Nebula in Orion encompasses ~51 minutes of imaging.

Technical details:

Sony A6000 with Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens at f5.6, ~300mm equivalent

ISO 800

34 images x 90 seconds (1 minute, 45 seconds)

No darks, flats, or biases.

Stacked and registered in PixInsight

Processed in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Overall, not too shabby. I'm still extremely suprised at how much H-a the stock Sony picked up, considering it's only 51 minutes of integration time or so. There's great detail in the Flame Nebula and you can see a very clear Horsehead. There is also a ton of nebulosity in M42/43/NGC 1973/5/7.

As for the aberrations on the corners, the stars are pretty sharp with very slight tracking errors and round towards the center, but I think that the corners are due to the lens I'm using rather than entirely due to tracking errors. I've got an autoguider coming soon (QHY5L-II plus an Orion 50mm guidescope), so that should help sort out some of the errors due to tracking, but overall, pretty pleased!

Let me know what you all think!
