Description

Photographed on the Tropic of Capricorn near Emerald, Queensland, Australia

The capability of the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer tracking mount is demonstrated in this image of the brightest of all of the globular clusters in the sky, Omega Centauri. Northern hemisphere astronomers long for an opportunity to travel to the equator or further south to see this grand object to advantage.

Although it can be seen with the unaided eye and was recorded by Ptolemy in his 2nd-century Almagest - 15 centuries before the invention of the telescope - this object was re-discovered as a non-stellar object by Edmund Halley in 1677.

To me it is, frankly, quite stunning that this little tracking mount is capable of supporting such a heavy lens and camera body and producing what I think is quite an acceptable result, with sharp star images across the frame.
