Homemade Infrared All Sky Cam (360 x 120) based on Raspberry Pi (experimental stage)

Description

P.S. 30.10. 2019, build this a very long time ago, now reloaded this from my staging area, because I noticed a lot of interests recently on Raspberry PI imaging

A ) Raspberry Pi including Pi Cam Noir, WiFi Dongle ( Linux OS , 1 GHz)

B) Time lapse loop of moving clouds on the night sky (60 * 60 steps)                !!!!   for unknown  reason the gif does play anymore (12.Nov 2023) !!!!

C ) Weather proof housing

Final) Lens

This device I build out of existing commercial & Open Source Hardware and Software components.

The fishey optics is a standard Door Viewer and of course not optimal together with the Pi Cam.

The plastic dome is not absolutely required if the Door Viewer hole to the Cam is sealed.

But it is also commercially available.

The Pi Cam noir is the infrared version (without infrared blocking filter), but still not very sensitive for night vision.

( Omnivision Ov5476, pixel size 1.4 um )

I was very surprised that I can detect clouds at night with it. (see animation)

Together with another device to measure the sky temperature, I get a pretty good picture of my local Sky condition, based on low budget.

Due to local weather conditions( since months!!!) I could not proof if the Cam could see stars, but I am convinced about the moon. (will add later pics)
