Description

Had some problems with intermittent clouds. Guiding was pretty good, but I was not very discriminating in selecting subs because this object is diffuse and dim. I didn't use the focal reducer for this one because it framed better this way.

In the revision, used StarTools with extensive Develop, HDRptimize, Color:Saturation, Life:Moderate. In CS6, Astronomy Tools Star Color Enhance, GradientXTerminator (course), background darkened with Gaussian blurred layer mask.

Date: 17 Jul 2012

Subject: NGC 6946, Fireworks Galaxy

Scope: AT8IN

Filter: none

Mount: CG-5 (Synta motors)

Guiding: Orion ST80 + 0.5x Antares telereducer + DSI Ic + PHD

Camera: DSI IIc

Acquisition: Nebulosity 3.0.8

Exposure: 40x300 s

Stacking: Neb 3, bias included, normalize first, trans+rot align, 1.5 SD stack

Processing: Just crop & color balance in N3, the use CS5 curves & levels, a little unsharp mask. In one layer use Astronomy Tools color blotch, deep space, & space noise reduction. Gaussian blur layer mask the unsmoothed layer on top of the smoothed one. Flatten, star color enhance, and saturation boost.
