Description

Comet 2014 E2 (Jaques) in northern Cassiopeia

A full tutorial for the processing method is presented here

The tricky part was preserving the faint ion tail when performing the "Star Freeze" processing - I seem to have managed it!

Version B: Colour balanced and bright star colour enhancement.

Note: even though the background was correctly balanced to a neutral colour (dark grey) the stars where too yellow and comet was too green. In particular the ion tail colour wasn't blue enough and we know comet ion tails are blue due to CO+ ions. The correction method used Photoshop levels with corrections to the gamma settings in the red and blue channels to neutralise the green/yellow cast. The background was rebalanced back to neutral grey by adjusting the black points in the red and blue channels to compensate the gamma adjustments
