Comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) was a great observing and photographic target for Northern Hemisphere observers during January 2015. At the time this image was taken, the comet was magnitude +4.5 and only 0.6 AU (55 million miles) from Earth.

This image was stacked in two parts - one for the comet by itself, and the other for the star field. The two parts were individually processed and then combined in Photoshop to create this final image.
