Description

My image of this beautiful region of the night sky at 135mm. This is just a quick test, only 26 minutes of integration, and really short subs at 60s, but that's what was possible with EQ3-2 and my polar alignment.

In this image you can spot several nice DSOs, the most readly seen is M42, the Orion Nebula, near the bottom right corner of the image. This Nebula is visible to the naked eye even from city centres, looks very nice in binoculars, and is amazing with a low power eyepiece from dark locations. "It lies at about 1250 ly from Earth and is estimated to be 24 ly across" ( adapted from Wikipedia). You can also see the iconic Orion's Belt, with the stars Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka. Near the star Alnitak you can see the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), as well as the Horsehead Nebula (B33 and IC434, the latter being the nebulosity around B33). It is also visible M78, a reflection nebula, on the left side of the image. You can also see a hint of the Barnard's Loop, that shows up much more in longer exposures with CCDs or modified cameras.

I am happy with this shot, you can see the Horsehead, and it is better than I expected. I captured more Ha than I thought I would, especially for a non-modified DSLR!

This was shot from the inner city of Cristina, a small ~10000 hab. city, and there is a fair amount of LP, and NELM is about 5.0-5.5, Bortle Scale 5. Shot from MG, Brazil. Thanks for seeing!

Camera: Unmodded T4i/650D at ISO 1600

Lens: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8, at 135mm and f/4

Exposure Detail: 26x60s; total 26 minutes.
