Description

Paddy said : remember what you did and learn from past experience... So, for the record :

I planned a session around getting more lum and O-III for my starting work on M42. I managed a fairly good 5 star pointing procedure, allowing for longer tracking without guiding. I was going to try a set of 90 sec frames, maybe 10 or 15 of each, if I didn't freeze before... But here is part of the game : clouds came in, ...and out was my project.

So here is time for checking last night's frames. Before going at M42, as I was pointing Alnitac, it occurred to me that the flame may be interesting to see with longer exposure time (see my 1st Flame attempt without mount!). *Let's do a quick series around here and see what happens!*

7x 30 sec @ 3200iso : it creates more noise to push the values in post-edition than work at higher iso values from the start (6400 or maybe up to 10.000 seem to be where the sweet spot lies.

Field depth : down to magnitude 16.35.

*Rule number 356 : no miracles (almost never) even the best equipment doesn't outdo patient, planned, methodic work. Stay zen, right mister moonrocks?*
