Description

Messier 78 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. Visually it is quite difficult to see much of anything, but when photographed, several separate reflection nebulae begin to appear. Careful processing reveals the presence of dramatic patterns of dust throughout the region. The nebula is approximately 1,600 light years from Earth. Processing of this image was very challenging.
