Description

Open cluster NGC3239 in Carina. North is down. At SE is Gum 30, At NW is Gabriela Mistral nebula. (NGC3324)

A cluster of 50 stars some 8,000 light years away, at around 10M years old however an interesting area in that some of the stars are aging more rapidly than the majority set of young blue stars. This makes it a target for studying the evolution of clusters. ESO released images of this from Chile in July last year.

The core of the cluster is crammed into a space that is the size of the Trapezium in M42.

There is a small reflection nebula within the cluster.

Version C combines 6 hours ish of Ha data with the original RGB to show the area around the cluster as well as more detail on Gum 30. Still learning about combining NB so bear with me on that
