Description

VERSION C : keep on exploring PixInsight ; not a real success this one, though the grain is much smoother, and the green is gone... I do loose some hedge... and I think I prefer grain anyway.

VERSION B : another cloudy night kept me in the editing kitchen, so I took a (child-like) joy in over cooking this version in my newly acquired software - StarTools 1.5.2

I was dissatisfied with what came out of my previous editing of this Flame nebula. So I found a couple more frames and spent more time on color balancing, noise reducing and the rest of this (to you familiar) process. That's all I've got. At least the stars retain a more natural color. What do you think?

So here is my final word with these two first sessions on NGC 2024 (alias The Flame) ; I'll give it another try with much more light as soon as possible !

Depth of field : at least mag. 17.95 - quite a number of them very obvious when in the blue range, harder in the yellow. My Stellarium program don't list all of those appearing here, so I won't know for sure. Let me assume it reaches down bellow mag 18.

23 frames for a total of 1442 seconds ;

4 x 0-III from 62 sec to 113 sec*

19x Bb (broadband) from 30 sec to 126 sec*

* RULE n° 671 : use a chronometer if you don't automate your sessions !
