Description

Shown at the center of this image is Messier 35, an open star cluster found 2,800 light years away in the constellation Gemini. The diffuse cluster contains around 2500 young blue stars with an age of 150 million years, spread out over 30 light years. The compact cluster above M35 is NGC 2158, its golden stars show its much older age of over 1 billion years, its blue stars burned out long ago. The cluster is about 4 times more distant than M35.

Poor focus, a modded camera and lack of exposure time resulted in me not being able to show off the blue in the stars of M35, imaging under a Moon didnt help either. I have a feeling this area has a lot of dust which would show in a deep image, there are tell tale signs visible in the image even with the short exposure, but as far as i can find no body has officially shown it in an image yet. I was going to attempt it as first light for the new CCD camera but i'm not sure i will get the opportunity this year.
