NGC 7510 Open Star Cluster Cepheus

NGC 7510 is an open cluster] of stars in the Cepheus constellation. NGC 7510, is a very small but brilliantly sparkly open cluster in Cepheus, just across the border from Cassiopeia. Ths cluster is 4' by 2' in extent, aligned northeast to southwest, and the total light from all stars in the cluster combines to equal that of an 8th magnitude star. The brightest star in the cluster is magnitude 9.7. Professionals count 60 stars in this cluster.

Observation Notes : NGC7510 is a beautifully rich, small cluster with a triangular or wedge-shaded outline. Roughly 50 stars are resolved in a 4'x2' region with additional sprays of stars extending to the SW and NE. There is a well-defined border of brighter stars running SW-NE along the south side of the wedge with the brightest mag 9.6 member at the east end of this string. There are several 11- 12th mag members, but most seem mag 13 and fainter. Discovered in 1787 by William Herschel.

Observation Notes : bright, pretty large, somewhat compressed cluster at 165X.I counted 22 members in an irregular shape, with several nice lines of stars. In a wide field eyepiece, cluster King 19 is in the same field.
