Description

March 12, 2015, at 10h30 pm. Jupiter and two moons (Europa and Io).

I tried to make the most of this image, which was obtained from a series that I assembled in an animated GIF:

http://www.astrosurf.com/danleclerc/_Illusion-20centisec-2centisec-Resized.gif . Just a moment before taking this photo, the two moons of Jupiter appeared to almost touch each other. This was an illusion, of course, since the orbits of Jupiter's moons will never intersect. Europa is the moon which is a little higher than Io. Io had just passed in front of Jupiter and Europa then headed behind Jupiter. The yellow tint of Io was very apparent.

Sky-Watcher 8-inch Newtonian telescope.

DBK21AU618.AS camera, Barlow 4X, Baader IR-cut filter, 60fps.

I used a 1700-frames avi file for stacking with AutoStakkert2! and wavelet filtering was done with RegiStax.
