Description

Face-on spiral galaxy M101 is one of the brighter Arp peculiar galaxies.

About 20MLy distant in the constellation of Ursa Major, Arp was probably mainly interested in M101 due to the straight spiral arms which are evident both E and W of the core.

There are at least 500 HII regions catalogued around Arp 26, 10 of which many have ngc names of their own.

This image, captured in March, is the result of only 20 x 2 minute exposures through my 10" Newt. reflector, due to an unexpected complete cloud out shortly after I began imaging. Not too bad for a 40 minute exposure.
