Description

The Medusa Nebula , also known as Abell 21 and Sharpless 274, in SHO palette. It is a large planetary nebula discovered by George Abell. While Abell classified it as an old planetary nebula, its filamentary structure led it to be believed to be a supernova remnant. However, later measurement of the expansion velocities classified it as a planetary.
