Description

The process of getting this picture presented some "first times" for me:

- It was my first attempt at M51.

- It was the first fime that i tried to join the Mak 127/1500 and the Canon 350D and i soon realized what it means to have a slow (f/12) telescope.

- First Time to use the Lacerta MGen Auoguider

- Longest single exposure i had so far

- Longest integration time i had so far

While trying to get my exposures, i soon realized, that the NEQ3-2 mount was overloaded, only about 20 % of my exposures where ok. So i got myself a used EQ5, this made things a lot easier. The image processing was a nighmare of its own: The amp glow was almost as bright as the galaxy.

Finally i managed to get this picture. Given all the efforts, do you think that this is an acceptable result? Any comments are highly appreciated.

Final version: Bad weather and lack of data. I gave this one a new attempt, this time data processing was done with PI and PS.
