Description

Arp 136 is an S0 type galaxy in Bootes. It is an edge on galaxy and has a blue tidal plume on its eastern edge. It appears surrounded in a faint halo of blue stars as well. Halton Arp classed it under ‘Elliptical and elliptical-like galaxies with nearby fragments’ and Arp's comment on the galaxy is "Faint streamer off one end of E galaxy".

Arp 136 is also known as NGC 5820 and is located about 160 million light-years away based on its redshift.

It is paired with NGC NGC 5821 which has a similar red shift also indicating a distance of about 160 million light-years and the little galaxy just south of NGC 5821 is SDSS J145901.42+535411.1 is the third member of the Arp 136 system as it is a dwarf galaxy also at about 160 million light-years.

The large galaxy southwest of Arp 136 is UGC 09632, a SAd spiral about 150 million light-years distant and a member of Arp 136's group. It's spiral structure is very ill-defined for some reason. The tiny galaxy off of its northwest end is SDSS J145751.63+534755.7 at 1.1 billion light-years. The galaxy just south of UGC 09632 is SDSS J145753.64+534602.5 at 145 million light-years and is probably a member of the group.

The galaxy just above the brilliant double star is PGC 053553. I have identified only 1 quasar in my image, as indicated at mag. 18.5.

The image was taken April 2015 and consists of 55 x 90 sec images summed in Astroart and processed in PixInsight and NEAT.
