Description

To my eye the most beautiful of celestial vistas.

Color is the most important attribute to me in astrophotography, and Rho Ophiuchi is at the pinnacle of it.

On a galactic scale, the nebula is quite close to us.  The globular M4 is two spiral arms away in the direction of the galactic core, and slightly above the galactic plane.  The globular NGC 6144 is seen in the image forming a triangle with Antares and M4, and is much more distant and located directly above the core of the Milky Way.  Positions can be seen by clicking the links below.

Description: Full rebuild rather than a revision. It has the same Lights & Flats, but includes calibrations with Bias & Darks and was processed 90% in PixInsight and finishing touches in Ps. The original revision was processed using Rawtherapee/DSS/Ps and only with flats. This is my first image using PI. It was more work for sure, but the data coming into Ps was much cleaner. A close inspection of this "build" versus the original shows this well I think.
