Description

M109 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy located in the direction of the Constellation Ursa Major, possibly 83 Million Light-Years distant, and is the most distant of the Messier Catalog objects and the brightest member of the M109 Group of some 50 galaxies. Three surrounding smaller galaxies may possibly be satellite galaxies of M109. The processing of M109 is made challenging due to the striations of light coming from nearby Phecda, a big dipper bowl star shining at magnitude 2.6.
