Description

Limited time for this before it became a picture of the Veil Nebula and my roof. Cold frosty night after breaking down, cleaning, and regreasing my 15 year old G11 mount (motors have been replaced though!)

Below cut and pasted from my facebook page where many non-astronomy friends follow....

"Explosive astrophotography! Last night I was able to capture about 90 minutes of imaging of the Veil Nebula. This is a supernova remnant in Cygnus from a star that was 20 times more massive than the sun and exploded 8000 to 20000 years ago. At the time of its explosion, this supernova could have been seen during the daytime.

There are three main components to the Veil nebula and I oriented them in the image with North facing up to help your imagination, but west is right and East is left. The Western Veil consists of the “Witch’s Broom” and the Eastern Veil “Network Nebula” with the North part of the Loop being called Pickering’s Triangle. The entire nebula is expanding out at 1.5 million kilometer per hour! "
