Description

230 000 light years away in the constellation of the Toucan, this is the Small Magellenic Cloud. This and the nearby Large Magellenic Cloud in Dorado are currently in a disruptive interaction with the Milky Way, which will ultimately result in them being absorbed into our galaxy.

Processing of this object is surprisingly difficult, with a spectacular aurora causing some problem with the background sky colours. This third version of the image was processed using pixinisight's drizzle integration.
